Matthew started flying in 2019 and has since gained extensive experience as a flight instructor and commercial pilot. He holds a degree in Aviation Management from Western Michigan University and an FAA Gold Seal Flight Instructor certificate. With more than 2,000 hours of flight instruction, Matthew tailors his approach to each student, ensuring they build strong skills and are prepared for the real-world demands of aviation.
Matthew currently flies as a First Officer for Envoy Air, operating the Embraer 170/175 in a Part 121 airline environment. His experience at Envoy has provided him with valuable insight into airline operations, including crew resource management, standardized procedures, decision-making, and operating safely in a complex, fast-paced environment. He brings these real-world airline experiences back to his instruction, helping students understand not only how to pass their checkrides, but how the skills they develop as pilots translate directly into professional aviation.
Safety, professionalism, and practicality are at the core of Matthew's teaching philosophy. He focuses on developing confident, knowledgeable pilots who understand the reasoning behind their decisions and are prepared to handle the challenges of real-world flying.
